Adventures in Dartless (1) - Strawberries
Heya! Got myself (from eBay) a new pattern drafting book. It’s called Il Modellismo Sartoriale, it is published by Istituto Burgo a fashion school in Milan and is bilingual (italian - english).
They use the proportional drafting method, which requires less measurements than the direct method - a few basic measurements, the rest being added through proportional calculations.
The first block they explore is the simple bodice which is dartless and can be used for a wide array of styles.
Although it is relatively simple to draft is less simple to fit (at least for a novice like yours truly). Nevertheless I had to give it a try and made a toile. Some time ago my fiancee’s mother gave me a basket full of pieces of fabric, small pieces, mostly leftovers from her sewing projects and I decided to use one them to make my toile.

It is a style that works best when there is a small bust difference (which is calculated in the book as half of the difference between the chest and bust circumferences). Diversely from the fitted bodice the fullness at the bust is achieved “in length" therefore it could result in a gaping armhole, especially visible if sleeveless. To correct it I think I overfitted, so it’s a bit snug over the bust.
I used facings around the neck and armholes; so between the medium weight cotton fabric and the facings the whole thing is a bit rigid.
This is the first flowery, fruity thing I ever wore so I feel a bit silly.
It is not perfect, it requires some more work but hey, this is just the first draft.

Avventure Senza Riprese (1) - Fragole
Ho trovato (su eBay) un nuovo libro di modellismo: Il Modellismo Sartoriale è un libro pubblicato dall’ Istituto Burgo di Milano ed e bilingue (italiano - inglese).
Usa il sistema di modellismo proporzionale, che richiede meno misurazioni dirette se lo si paragona con il metodo diretto - poche misurazioni di base ed il resto viene estrapolato attraverso calcoli e proporzioni.
Il primo modello-base che viene analizzato nel libro e il corpetto semplice senza riprese, che può essere usato come base per una grande varietà di stili.
Anche se relativamente semplice da disegnare e meno semplice da adattare alla figura (almeno per una novizia come me) - dovevo comunque provare. Qualche tempo fa, la mamma del mio fidanzato mi ha regalato qualche pezzo di tessuto, perlopiù resti dai suoi progetti di cucito e ho deciso di usare uno di questi per fare la mia tela di prova.

Questo è un stile che funziona meglio quando c’è una differenza busto (nel libro viene calcolata come la metà della differenza tra la circonferenza del busto e quella del torace) piccola. A differenza dal corpetto con riprese lo spazio necessario per il busto viene creato sfruttando le “lunghezze”, perciò a causa della sporgenza seno si può creare un molleggio del tessuto, nella posizione dell’incavo davanti, particolarmente evidente se senza maniche. Per ovviare penso di aver modellato il corpetto troppo aderente attorno al busto.
Ho usato paramonture al collo e giro manica, perciò tra il tessuto in cottone di medio peso e le paramonture it tutto risulta piuttosto rigido.
Questa è la prima cosa con fiori, frutti mai indossata da me, perciò mi sento un po “sciocchina”.
Non è perfetta, ci vuole ancora del lavoro … è la prima bozza dopo tutto.
