It’s a Grey Winter - Cradle Me…
While knitting the Norah Gaughan Vest I fell in love with the Rowan Big Wool yarn so when I saw on Ebay Winter Drift, the brochure dedicated to it (you can find it here and see all the patterns inside here) I just couldn’t resist. It contains some really nice patterns and some of them are super easy to knit. Do not expect now to see all Big Wool knits on my blog … for now I decided to indulge and maybe I’ll indulge in the making of the Comfort Poncho also - it’s called “Comfort” people! It’s a pleasure to hold between your hands and it’s really quick to knit (2 plies super bulky!).
I went for the Cradle Cardigan/Jacket pattern by Marie Wallin in grey (56 Glum) as I figured I needed a jacket to go with my short Turias.
The pattern could be explained better - if you are a beginner and english is not your language you might have some difficulties interpreting it. Note: rib(x) means continue to work the ribbing for (x) sts ;).
The yarn holds beautifully the cables - gives them structure and definition.
The collar is a play on the peter pan collar and I thought it was supposed to lay flat so I attached it with the junction on the outside even though the pattern clearly states “with the right side facing (…) pick up and knit”. It doesn’t. I was temped for five seconds to frog it and start over but… have you met me? I’m lazy. Luckily I didn’t do a very bad job and with a big scarf (bigger than the one I’m wearing here) you can’t tell ;).
It has a kimono sleeve with a wide cuff.

It is soft and warm and yet has volume and structure and I think it works as an outfit with my Turias.
Thank you for visiting. I would love to hear your opinion.
Sbagliato!

the cardigan is gorgeous! love all those cables and wide cuffs :) now I want to knit something more complex than cowls, hats, socks and mittens :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Tea! I can't wait to see what you choose to do!
Deletei love your new cardigan! reminds me of a cardigan my grandma knited for my mom, back when i was a kid, it's the same color and has really similar cables.. and i love how you styled it, too
ReplyDeleteThank you Mokosha ... are we ever going to see you with a pair of knitting needles? ;)
Deleteahhh that looks so cozy! it's also the perfect colour to go with almost anything! The cables look brilliant! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jennifer!
DeleteSo cozy! Looks great with your dungarees - i love them with tights. Sasha can I use a pic of one of your frocks as one of my fave makes of the year on my blogs? It's ok if you don't want me to! X
ReplyDeleteSorry where are my manners! Please could I!
DeleteAre you kidding me?! ... I'd be honoured!
Deletexo
You're a doll - thankyou! X
DeleteWow, this looks amazing! I love all the details! This is going on my project wish list :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! It would look great on you :D!
DeleteThis looks so luxe, it's amazing! so thick and wonderfully textured. Beautiful, Sasha!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sara ... the yarn is to blame ;) has a very luxurious feel!
DeleteBravissima molto carino e sembra pure super caldo!
DeleteAmazing jacket! I love the sleeves. What a great pattern. Will have to bookmark this!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very clever pattern.. I enjoyed a lot knitting it and I'm glad you like it!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous sweater! It looks fabulous on you. This makes me want to learn to knit...but I haven't conquered sewing yet. I'm amazed and inspired by how productive you are.
ReplyDeleteCarol
Thank you Carol ... do you really think I am productive ... I fell such a lazy cat :)
DeleteI adore!!!!! I am a big fan of the chunky knit and love Wenlan Chia's patterns (for eg. Twinkle's Town and Country Knits). It's such a shame that Sydney never gets truly cold and so this type of knit would be disastrous (think sweaty pool of mush). This is such a perfect match with your new dungarees. You genius, you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jillian! Wenlan Chia is such a talented designer - I made her Highlander's Stole as a gift for a friend of mine and I loved it ... come to think of it I must knit one for myself too ;)
DeleteMa sei davvero bravissima!!!
Deletep.s DEVI riprovarci ;)
It's absolutely glorious! We're mid-summer here at the moment, but this makes me positively impatient for winter... You always style things so beautifully too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Danielle - I so much envy your mid-summer temperatures right now ...
DeleteWowee! The whole outfit looks like you've stepped out of the Rowan catalogue. Fantastic look, and wonderful knitting. It's a gorgeous pattern and I love the effect of the chunkier yarn and those huge cables. I'm in awe!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Winnie! The pattern does really highlight the qualities of the yarn. Chunky cables sometimes can make a garment seem heavy but this doesn't. A very clever design!
DeleteWow! This is absolutely gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ginger!
DeleteBellissimo!!!
DeleteGorgeous !!! I how I wish my knitting skills were better. I love the entire look from head to toe!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Margo!
DeleteThis just so beautiful! I love that even with all the interesting cables, bulky wool, and positive ease, it's still so very feminine. I imagine this was a joy to make, from start to finish
ReplyDeleteoh... it was indeed , a joy to make! Thank you Michelle for your nice words - means a lot coming from you, such an accomplished knitter!
DeleteYou look absolutely stunning in this outfit! Your sweater is amazing, I've also started to knit but very easy things and I hope one day I'll be able to make as beautiful and complicated as this.
ReplyDeleteHalf of the outfit are your Turias!!! ahhhh I feel like I wouldn't be fair for the rest of us common mortals if you get to be as good at knitting as at pattern designing!
DeleteI love Big Wool, too! And the sweater looks really great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Abbie - it's a great yarn!
