While knitting the Norah Gaughan Vest I fell in love with the Rowan Big Wool yarn so when I saw on Ebay Winter Drift, the brochure dedicated to it (you can find it here and see all the patterns inside here) I just couldn’t resist. It contains some really nice patterns and some of them are super easy to knit. Do not expect now to see all Big Wool knits on my blog … for now I decided to indulge and maybe I’ll indulge in the making of the Comfort Poncho also - it’s called “Comfort” people! It’s a pleasure to hold between your hands and it’s really quick to knit (2 plies super bulky!).
I went for the Cradle Cardigan/Jacket pattern by Marie Wallin in grey (56 Glum) as I figured I needed a jacket to go with my short Turias.
The pattern could be explained better - if you are a beginner and english is not your language you might have some difficulties interpreting it. Note: rib(x) means continue to work the ribbing for (x) sts ;).
The yarn holds beautifully the cables - gives them structure and definition.
Collar detail - boyfriend still not familiar with the focusing mechanism (insert here exasperated sigh).
The collar is a play on the peter pan collar and I thought it was supposed to lay flat so I attached it with the junction on the outside even though the pattern clearly states “with the right side facing (…) pick up and knit”. It doesn’t. I was temped for five seconds to frog it and start over but… have you met me? I’m lazy. Luckily I didn’t do a very bad job and with a big scarf (bigger than the one I’m wearing here) you can’t tell ;).
It is soft and warm and yet has volume and structure and I think it works as an outfit with my Turias.

E’ un’inverno grigio …
Mentre lavoravo al Gilè di Norah Gaughan mi sono innamorata del filato Big Wool di Rowan (distribuito in Italia dalla Coats) perciò quando ho visto su Ebay Winter Drift, il libricino ad esso dedicato (potette trovarlo qui o qui e pottete vedere i modelli contenuti qui), non ho saputo resistere. Contiene alcuni modelli molto carini ed alcuni super facili da realizzare. Non aspettatevi adesso di vedere solo modelli Big Wool sul mio blog - per il momento me l’ho concedo e forse mi concederò anche il piacere di realizzare il Comfort Poncho - si chiama “Comfort” perdindirindina! E un piacere tenerla tra le mani e si lavora alla velocità della luce (super bulky a 2 capi!).
Ho scelto il cardigan/giacchetta Cradle di Marie Wallin in grigio (56 Glum) - mi serviva una giacchetta da abbinare ai miei Turia corti
Il modello potrebbe essere spiegato meglio - se sei una principiante e hai delle difficoltà con l’inglese allora potresti averle anche nel decifrare il modello. Nota: rib(x) significa continua la costa per for (x) maglie ;).
Il filato tiene benissimo le trecce le da struttura e definizione.
Dettaglio del colletto - moroso ancora perplesso difronte ai meccanismi della messa a fuoco (inserire qui sospiro esasperato).
Il colletto è una variante del colletto peter pan ed ho pensato stesse piatto dunque ho deciso di realizzarlo con il giunto sul esterno anche se le istruzioni recitano chiaramente il contrario “with the right side facing (…) pick up and knit”. Sbagliato! Sono stata tentata per circa cinque secondi di disfarlo - troppo pigra. Fortunatamente non è venuto super male e con una bella sciarpona (magari più voluminosa di quella che indosso in queste foto) non si nota.

What a gorgeous sweater! It looks fabulous on you. This makes me want to learn to knit...but I haven't conquered sewing yet. I'm amazed and inspired by how productive you are.
I adore!!!!! I am a big fan of the chunky knit and love Wenlan Chia's patterns (for eg. Twinkle's Town and Country Knits). It's such a shame that Sydney never gets truly cold and so this type of knit would be disastrous (think sweaty pool of mush). This is such a perfect match with your new dungarees. You genius, you :)

Ma sei davvero bravissima!!! :) Mi piace tantissimo questo maglione, sia il colore sia il modello. Belle le maniche kimono con polsino alto. E con la salopette sta da dio!! Adoro anche il cappello...insomma mi piace tutto! ;) Solo per curiosità...quanto ci si impiega a fare un maglione così? Non faccio niente a maglia da quando ho 10 anni...mi avevano insegnato qualcosina quando ero piccola. Mia mamma è brava, ma io non ho più ripreso. A guardare le tue cose mi viene voglia di riprovarci, prima o poi ;)
Grazie Martina ... non ho mai misurato il tempo che ci impiego ... lavoro per la maggior parte in stazione e treno (anche se la gente mi guarda come se fossi verde e con le antenne) e ogni tanto la sera quando sono troppo stanca per mettermi a cucire - perciò non saprei dirti con precisione, una trentina di ore di lavoro effettivo penso. p.s DEVI riprovarci ;)

Wowee! The whole outfit looks like you've stepped out of the Rowan catalogue. Fantastic look, and wonderful knitting. It's a gorgeous pattern and I love the effect of the chunkier yarn and those huge cables. I'm in awe!
Thank you so much Winnie! The pattern does really highlight the qualities of the yarn. Chunky cables sometimes can make a garment seem heavy but this doesn't. A very clever design!
