Deco Flower Pillow

Deco Flower Pillow

      If you read my previous post (here) you know this is the first project I’ve ever sewn, start to finish. I chose to make this pillow because there was a lot of stitching involved (machine stitching) and to be able to control the stitching around the oh so many circles, I had first to learn how to stitch in a straight line (and it took a bit). I used a light felted wool so I didn’t need bother with the edges fraying and besides I could choose among the so many colors it normally comes in.

      What I’ve learned:
  • the mysteries of the straight stitch - I can finally call it that;
  • the appliqué blanket stitch ( the main stitch here - used a length of 3 and a width of 3);
  • the zig-zag stitch and that the satin stitch is just a very dense zig-zag stitch (on the petals);
  • that you cannot cut fabric with your paper scissors - not really, and certainly not if you care for your hands;
  • what are and how to use the pinking shears.

     At the end, after lots of work I think it made a nice gift for my sister-in-law, she has a two year old just learning the colors ... :)

P.S. ... I've even made a little label as per no big dill tutorial.
