Oh Boy… Fleece Hoodie

      Well, well, well... I took a class: Craftsy’s Sewing with Knits with Meg McElwee... She is nice and has such a calming voice and smile, inspiring a totally zen attitude towards sewing with knits without a serger, especially in an anxiety prone person like yours truly.

      I’ve learned so many things I can’t even count, just from watching. I did not follow along with the projects. I prefer to watch te classes, maybe take notes… and then use the knowledge I gained to do my own projects … something that I use, like, want or want to gift. And so I did. I took the first project which was a woman’s hoodie and I transformed it into one for a four years old boy (my nephew)… well it came out more like for a six years old but he’ll groooooow into it ;). I aded an appliqué front pocket with a zipper closure (a secrets/treasures pocket every small boy's garment should have) inspired by Simone Legno’s design for the Bastardino character.

      Overall I’m pretty pleased with it … The colour combination turned out not as happy as I would have wanted it to be, maybe because for the appliqué I used the only pieces of fabrics without floral prints that I had in my studio, and seemed at the moment suitable for a boy, and the fleece I could find in store was unfortunately either this green or dark brown or black.

Felpa con Cappuccio

      Sono fiera di annunciare che ho seguito un corso: Sewing with Knits della Craftsy con Meg McElwee... Lei è molto carina, ha una voce ed un sorriso a dir’ poco ad effetto lenitivo per una psiche ansiosa, ed ispira un’atteggiamento molto zen per quel che riguarda cucire con materiali stretch senza una tagliacuci.

      Ho imparato tantissime cose semplicemente guardando il corso, pur non eseguendo i progetti proposti; preferisco guardare le lezioni, prendere qualche appunto( forse) e poi applicare quello che ho imparato per realizzare un mio progetto: qualcosa che userei, mi piacerebbe, vorrei avere oppure vorrei regalare. Così ho presso il primo progetto che era una felpa da donna con cappuccio e l’ho trasformato in una felpa per un bambino di quattro anni (il mio nipotino) … beh è venuta fuori più una misura sei anni ma ci crescerà dentro ;). Ho aggiunto una tasca frontale ad applique con chiusura a zip (una tasca dei segreti/tesori che ogni capo di abbigliamento per un ragazzino dovrebbe avere) ispirata dal personaggio Bastardino di Simone Legno.

      Tutto sommato sono abbastanza contenta del risultato…. I colori non sono così allegri come li avrei voluti forse perché ho usato per l’applique dei pezzi di tessuto che al momento mi sembravano adatti per un maschietto (senza stampe floreali), ma forse avrebbero potuto essere più vivaci; e la scelta del colore della felpa era limitata purtroppo, oltre al verde a un marrone molto triste ed il nero, che trovo totalmente inadatto per un bambino.

      E a proposito… questo è il mio primo capo di abbigliamento realizzato :) .
