Red Knitted Cable Jacket
This week I fiddled so much with the blog’s looks and especially works (I’m doing it all myself and I’m not what you would call a coding expert, on the contrary) .. that I got behind with my posting.
Anyway, today is all about knitting. This is my first shot at pattern writing for knitting and was intended as a test garment. The choice of yarn was conditioned very much by the “test” part. I wanted a sturdy, affordable yarn so I chose Cascade Yarns Eco+ in 8511 Rouge (I know in the photos seems more fuchsia but is red) purchased online here. I needed 3 whole skeins to make it.
I used the word “writing” before, quite loosely. When I finished it I realised that “scribbling” is a more appropriate word as I could not make sense of my own notes. If I were to release it as a pattern I would have to do it all again! In the meanwhile (?!), if you like how it looks, you could try this pattern from Debbie Bliss (available as a free download). It uses a much finer yarn (18-20 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino dk ) and it seems to have a slightly different construction (less shaping and the front part is made from two pieces as opposed to a single piece) - to be honest I haven’t tried it.
And now the photos:
This is the braid pattern chart I made for it. If you like it you can download the full chart (symbols explained) as a english/italian pdf here.
Thank you for visiting! I love getting comments and always visit links when available.
