Miss Easter Bunny

Miss Easter Bunny

      This week I’ve been forced to bed rest by a nasty flu virus. But because bed rest, between high fever bouts, coughing fits and other really unpleasant stuff, is kinda boring I had to find some little project to make the whole thing bearable. I used some leftover yarn from a baby blanket I made a while back, to crochet this little easter bunny.

      And because I had some “spare” time I wrote down the pattern.
      If you decide to try it and find some mistake please let me know.

Yarn: Delicata Baby from Lane Mondial, 100% Pure New Wool, fingering weight
Hook: 3.5 mm
(* you can modify the overall number of increases/decreases while working with a different combination of yarn weight/hook size)

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
rnd = round
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
tr = treble crochet
inc = increase
dec = decrease

      HOWTOs: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/school/lessons_crochet.php

BODY:
Worked in the round in a circle.
Chain 2
————
rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in first sc, to join (place marker for start of round)
rnd 2: inc 1 sc in every sc = 12 sc
rnd 3: * 1 sc in next sc, inc 1 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 18 sc
rnd 4: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from *-* the entire round = 24 sc
rnd 5: * 1 sc in next 3 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30 sc
… For each new round, add 1 extra sc stitch to the number of sc stitches between increases, each round resulting in 6 more sc stitches compared to the previous round.
rnd 14: * 1 sc in next 13 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from *-* the entire round = 90 sc
————
rnds 15 to 21: work 1 sc in every sc
————
rnd 22: * 1 sc in each of the next 13 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 84 sc
rnd 23: work 1 sc in every sc
rnd 24: * 1 sc in each of the next 12 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 78 sc
rnds 25 to 27: work 1 sc in every sc
rnds 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43, 45 - work decreases the same way as for rnd 24, subtracting with each round 1 sc stitch to the number of sc stitches worked between decreases, each round resulting in 6 less sc stitches, compared to the previous round.
rnds: 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, 36, 41, 42, 44: work 1 sc in every sc
rnd 47: * 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30 sc
————
rnd 48: ch 3 * skip 1 sc, work 1 tr in next sc, ch 1*, repeat from *-* the entire round - this will form a row of eyelets used later to thread ribbon through
————
rnd 49: work 2 sc in every eyelet = 30 sc
rnds 50, 51: work 1 sc in every sc
rnd 52: 1 sc in next 4 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from *-* the entire round = 36 sc
rnd 53: work 1 sc in every sc
rnds 54, 56, 58: work increases the same way as for round 52, adding 1 extra stitch to the number of sc stitches between increases, each round resulting in 6 more sc stitches compared to the previous round.
rnds 55, 57, 59: work 1 sc in every sc
rnd 60: * 1 sc in next 8 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc*, repeat from *-* the entire round = 60 sc
rnds 61 to 63: work 1 sc in every sc
rnd 64: * 1 sc in each of the next 8 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 54 sc
rnd 65, 67, 69: work 1 sc in every sc
rnds 66, 68: - work decreases the same way as for rnd 64, subtracting with each round 1 sc stitch to the number of sc stitches worked between decreases, each round resulting in 6 less sc stitches, compared to the previous round.
rnd 70: * 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 36 sc
————
      Fill the lower part of the body with some poly stuffing making a small hole in the center with your finger.

————
rnd 71: * 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30 sc
rnd 72: * 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 24 sc
rnd 73: * 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 18 sc
rnd 74: * 1 sc in each of the next 1 sc, dec 1 sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 12 sc
rnd 75: dec 1 sc in every sc = 6 sc
Sew the last 6 sc tog with thread
————
      Thread some ribbon through the eyelets.

soft_toy

      Push the top side of the body towards the inside to create a pouch.

crochet_bunny

      Tie the ribbon with a bow to close the pouch.

EARS (make 4 - you can choose to make only two if you use a heavier yarn or want the ears to be floppier)
Worked back and forth on 15 sc stitches for 6 rows. Starting from row 7, on every odd row, decrease 1 sc stitch in the middle of the row until 2 sc stitches remain. Tie off.
————
      Place one ear piece on top of the other and sew along the edges (if you made 4 pieces). Fold at the base and sew to the main body along the top near the ribbon.
      Repeat for the remaining ear pieces.
————
      Embroidery the face. Make a pom-pom tail and sew it to the body.
