Running Franken-Skort
While everybody seems to be making bodysuits, that is Closet Case Files’ Netties - with remarkable results, if I may say so - as Mokosha’s, Sara’s, and the ones made by the ladies behind Jolies bobines and Sown Brooklyn; just to name a few… I decided to take one (bodysuit) apart. It was a gift, it was long-sleeved, it was too big, it was toooooo shiny. Besides me and bodysuits don’t get along and it goes both ways: I don’t look good in them, they don’t look good on me. I have no need for a bodysuit but I do need a running skort (the lovechild of a skirt with a pair of shorts). I dislike shorts, they make me feel like running in my knickers and the crops leave a nasty mid calf tan line in the summer.
A skort it is.
Armed with scissors I started hacking at the bodysuit - sorry no photos, it was 2am and flash photography is not my thing (….unless we’re talking conceptual stuff).
For the shorts/leggings part I settled on the Burda Lace Leggings pattern. I dropped the waist a lot, cut the leg to the length and had to cut away a 10 cm strip in the middle of the pattern (it’s a one piece pattern), because it wouldn’t fit on the bodysuit bodice and had to use the fabric from the sleeves to add width. From a pair of leggings without a side seam I now had one with two side seams. To use the whole thing to my advantage I decided to shape anatomically the panels to be inserted at the sides.

Time to get moving!
Che belle foto!!! E ti sta benissimo !!! Mi è' venuta voglia di andare a correre;-) baci
ReplyDeleteGrazie Simo!!!
A presto!!
Grazie Elisabetta...!!!
DeleteSempre gentile :) Grazie Sasha. Non ne ho mai sentito parlare ma mi informo.
DeleteGreat idea! and the little pocket, just perfect. I think being passionate and creative(me) is good; being passionate and creative and beautiful (you) is even much much better!
ReplyDeleteYou make me blush ... again... I'm just a decent photographer ... I think :-)
DeleteI started crochet, and it is fun. I crocheted some flowers. and now, I want a black big dog.. I can smell the trees around you. do let me know are you using a coverstitch machine for the hem or double needle?
DeleteIt's a labrador retriever :-) I used a double needle ... I don't have a coverstitch machine :( ... maybe .. someday ... who knows ..
DeleteThese are terrific! And I love that they were put together from bits and pieces. There are lots of places in the States that sell Supplex fabric, but you can probably order from the UK. Finding the right fabrics for a project is always the most difficult part, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt is!!! ... especially when you know next to nothing about fabrics, like me. Thank you for the tip! I hope some of those UK suppliers ship to Italy ... at a reasonable price ;-)
DeleteWonderful! That looks better than anything RTW I have seen! I just yesterday altered a swimsuit tankini top (fitted and I wanted it to be looser) by adding side strips cut from a moisture wicking running top...I was so afraid to tackle swimwear but now my success with it has me wanting to actually make one "from scratch" as we southerners like to say ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Shae! Making things "from scratch" is really rewarding and has the added bonus that you cam make them exactly as you want them!
DeleteLove this so much!
ReplyDeleteThank You!!! :)
